Coffee at Henriette's: Hygge, Happiness & Danish Life

Why are Danes consistently ranked among the happiest people in the world? What does hygge actually mean? And what is everyday life in Denmark really like beyond the things you read in guidebooks?

Henriette is a historian, teacher and guide who has spent over 30 years meeting people from around the world and answering their questions about Denmark. Warm, curious and endlessly knowledgeable, she loves sharing the stories and everyday details that help explain Danish life from the inside.

“Being a guide has taught me that people are often most curious about everyday life – not just our history or our buildings, but how we actually live. I want to share that.”

Her home sits at the very edge of Ørestad Syd, where some of Copenhagen's newest architecture suddenly gives way to the protected landscape of Naturpark Amager – a stark contrast between city and nature that Henriette loves.

    About Coffee with Henriette

Begin with a short walk together through Naturpark Amager, before heading back to Henriette's home for coffee, tea and Danish pastries.

Around the table, conversation can go in many directions – from Danish trust culture and work-life balance, to urban planning, nature conservation and sustainability, including the story of how Ørestad has grown and changed.

It's a chance to ask questions, exchange perspectives and meet other curious people. Great for visitors, newcomers to Copenhagen, and locals who are curious to see their city through a different lens.
